Monthly Games – April 2017

0

Let’s take a look at the games available for both PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold in April 2017. What’s good? What’s bad? What’s somewhere in between?

PS Plus Games for April 2017

Drawn To Death (PS4)
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (PS4)
Invizimals: The Lost Kingdom (PS3)
Alien Rage – Extended Edition (PS3)
10 Second Ninja (PS Vita & PS4)
Curses ‘n Chaos (PS Vita & PS4)

Opinions

Not a particularly strong month for PS Plus subscribers, in my opinion. I haven’t played many of these games, but I can read reviews and comments as well as anyone. Drawn to Death probably would never have even been mentioned if it wasn’t a David Jaffe game. It has maybe one interesting mode and the rest is kind of by the numbers arena shooter. Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is good, but because it’s only local co-op the market will be limited. And I don’t think you can play it very well solo. The rest are average at best and the Vita might as well have stayed home.

Xbox Live Gold Games for April 2017

Ryse: Son of Rome
The Walking Dead: Season 2
Darksiders
Assassin’s Creed Revelations

Opinions

Compared to the PS Plus games, Xbox Live Gold easily steals the show in April 2017. None of these are 10/10 games, but Ryse: Son of Rome and Darksiders are solid fighters. Assassin’s Creed Revelations is one of the better games in the series. The only possible problem I can see here is that The Walking Dead: Season 2 will only be worth playing if you’ve either got or played the first game!

Humble Monthly Bundle

The Witness
Uurnog
(others TBC)

Opinions

Too early to give much feedback on this, but The Witness was lauded across the board by both critics and gamers alike. I haven’t played it yet, but I really want to try it. Uurnog is a Humble Exclusive, an indie platformer that looks like a cross between SteamWorld Dig and Terraria. We’ll need to see how the rest of this bundle pans out, but Humble has been pretty reliable for adding a few awesome titles to their bundle every month.

Go Get Them!

The PS Plus games will be available from April 4th. Xbox Live Gold has a much weirder staggered release schedule, but they’ll all be available during different points of the month. The full Humble Bundle will be available on April 7th. If you’re interested in anything on this list you should definitely check them out.
