Monthly Games – May 2017

Let’s take a look at the games available for PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold and Humble Bundle in May 2017. What’s coming to your library this time?

PS Plus Games for May 2017

Tales from the Borderlands (PS4)
Abzu or Alienation* (PS4)
Blood Knights (PS3)
Port Royale 3 (PS3)
Laser Disco Defenders (PS Vita & PS4)
Type:Rider (PS Vita & PS4)

*Alienation replaces Abzu in Europe

First off, the Europe-specific Alienation offer is super annoying for me because I just bought it in the spring sale and I really want to play Abzu. But whatever. None of the others really interest me that much. Tales from the Borderlands is apparently good, but I’m not a big fan of graphic adventure games. I know nothing about the PS3 games, but Laser Disco Defenders is a great choice for a Vita game!

Xbox Live Gold Games for May 2017

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Director’s Cut (XB1)
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (XB1)
Star Wars: The Force Unleased II (X360)
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (X360)

Both of the Xbox One games are pretty old this time. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is good though. A good puzzle game single player and even better if you can get in with a friend. I played Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams a while ago and didn’t get it, but a lot of people went nuts for it.

I guess it was kind of inevitable that the month with May 4th would come with a bit of a Star Wars theme. I haven’t played Star Wars: The Force Unleased II but I’ve heard god things about it. Lego Star Wars kind of falls into the usual Lego game formula, but does have a good amount of uniquely Lego humour in there.

Humble Monthly Bundle for May 2017

Stellaris (PC)
A2Be (PC)
Battlesloths (PC)
Cat Girl Without Salad (PC)
Copoka (PC)
Elephant in the Room (PC)
Fidel (PC)
Gunmetal Arcade Zero (PC)
Jawns (PC)
Kimmy (PC)
Oh Deer (PC)
Spoolside (PC)
Tailwind: Prologue (PC)
Uurnog (PC)
Yojimbrawl (PC)

A mainly sci-fi themed month for Humble by the looks of it. I guess they’re embracing the Star Wars thing as well! Stellaris is a well-loved 4X grand strategy game, so hardcore nerds will be happy. I haven’t played it, but I’d like to. The others all look a bit experimental and it’s actually hard to get a decent impression of how good they are. Yojimbrawl is a multiplayer brawler by a developer with a good track record, so that could be worth a look.

Go Get Them!

The PS Plus games will be available from May 2nd. Xbox Live Gold has a staggered release schedule, but they’ll all be available during different points of the month. The Humble Monthly Bundle will be available on May 5th. If you’re already subscribed to one of these services you should definitely check them out!
