Monthly Games – July 2017

0

Let’s take a look at the games available for both PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold and Humble Bundle in July 2017. What’s coming to your library this time?

PS Plus Games for July 2017

Until Dawn (PS4)
Game of Thrones (PS4)
Tokyo Jungle (PS3)
Darkstalkers Resurrection (PS3)
Element4l (PS Vita)
Don’t Die Mr Robot (PS Vita)

Opinions

I know that Until Dawn is good because my good friend (and former Albany Down bass player) said it is. I trust his opinion. I’ve wanted to play it for a while and I like the idea of an interactive story with multiple endings. Game of Thrones is by Telltale, so it should be pretty reliable too. Tokyo Jungle is a game I wanted when I still had a PS3. The others I had to look up. Darkstalkers Resurrection is a 2D fighter that’s built on the Street Fighter engine, so that should be pretty good, right? Element4l is cute and the PC version reviewed well.

Xbox Live Gold Games for July 2017

Grow Up (XB1)
Runbow (XB1)
Kane & Lynch 2 (360)
LEGO: Pirates of the Caribbean (360)

Opinions

A very co-op heavy month for Xbox gamers. I didn’t really like the original Grow Home, but it was beloved by the industry and I understand Grow Up is more of the same. Runbow looks like it could be a blast, similar to Speed Runners (which the XB1 got last month). I’ve said it before, but the LEGO games are all kind of similar so if you like the other ones you’ll probably like this one. The worst of the bunch is Kane & Lynch 2, which was a universal “meh” when it was released – seven years ago. Has it aged well? I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Humble Monthly Bundle for July 2017

NBA 2K17
Pillars of Eternity

Opinions

I don’t know how well it transfers to PC, but I’ve always enjoyed the 2K basketball games on console and NBA 2K17 will have all of the current rosters set up. So that’s nice. And Pillars of Eternity is a well-regarded RPG. I’ve never played it, but it was well received when it came out in 2015.

When Can You Get Them?

Each of these services releases at different times so it’s hard to track them accurately. The PS Plus games always drop on the first Tuesday of the month. Xbox Live Gold tends to stagger the release through the month. The Humble Monthly Bundle usually activates around the middle of the month. I hope my opinions have helped you work out which you’re going to play first!
