My Favourite PS Vita Games

This frequently updated page is the home of my favourite PS Vita games, an evolving top-5 list of the games I think are the best the Vita has to offer.

PS Vita: My Favourites

Here is the list of my favourite games on PS Vita right now. If a game is multiplatform, this represents the platform I’ve played it on most.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

TBoI works really well on handheld and it’s my go-to game any time I take a plane. The Vita struggles to keep the frame rate up sometimes, but to be honest I don’t care. Procedurally generated levels with random items and a ton of stuff to unlock. I wish Afterbirth was available, but it doesn’t look like we’re ever going to get that.

Hotline Miami

Hotline Miami was made for gaming like this. It’s not stealth, but you’ll spend a lot of time hiding and planning. When the action kicks in, it kicks in hard and brutally. Top-down ultra-violence at its best. The story is weird, but it’s built around drug taking, so that can’t be a surprise, right?

Counterspy

If you ever wanted to feel like a super spy, working as a double agent during the Cold War with a 50’s film noir feel, Counterspy is the game for you. A great mix of stealth, shooting and platforming with an amazing soundtrack. Definitely one worth picking up.

PixelJunk Shooter

PixelJunk Shooter is a twin-stick shooter at heart, but will require a bit more thought than most. You’ll use fire and water to create and destroy caverns while rescuing trapped colonists. There’s a lot to love here, and it’s a perfect fit for a handheld console.

Spelunky

The game that launched 1000 YouTube careers, Spelunky is a randomly generated platformer where a single mistake means death. The controls are tight and everything just works as perfectly as you’d expect. There’s secret routes to uncover and glitches to exploit, so there’s a lot of reasons to keep coming back beyond just beating your best time.
